The decision has been taken in agreement with the F.I.A., the WRC Promoter, the Rally organizer and the local authorities. No spectators areas will be devised along the tests. Gold Pass holders will receive full refund

Alghero, September 9th, 2020 – On the contrary of other appointments in the WRC 2020 calendar, the Rally Italia Sardegna will take place and credit for this goes to the hard work of ACI and its President Angelo Sticchi Damiani that, as in the case of F1, in Monza, Mugello and Imola, put in a lot of efforts with the team of ACI and ACI Sport and, together with Regione Sardegna confirmed an unmissable appointment not only for the World Rally Championship, but also for the whole Italian Motorsport.

The rally will take place from October 8-11 but it will be behind closed doors in a way to carefully put in place all the sanitary protocols defined by the Italian, local, medical and sporting authorities that have been confirmed by the Decree Law issued on September 7th.

A double compromise – the new date first and the constraint of being behind closed doors now – that allowed nevertheless the confirmation of the RIS 2020, an edition that will be spectacular and that will highlight the beauties of Sardinia through a unique event that is being confirmed as the best in the world.

This is going to be a transition edition for RIS that will certainly stage great sporting battles, but unfortunately the heat of the fans will not push drivers further this time around.

The forced decision has been jointly taken by the F.I.A., the Promoter, the Rally Organizer and the local authorities to suppress all the fans areas along the stages on top of a strict control of start/finish areas, service park and regrouping. “It is important in this terrible season” – Automobile Club d’Italia President stated – “that the world of sport provides an example of correctness and responsibility. Our objective, shared also by Regione Sardegna, has always been to hold the rally to deliver the message that despite this pandemic and its toll, the world has to go forward looking ahead in the due respect of rules. For this reason we ask for the collaboration of the real rally fans to make this event take place in the best possible way”.

Fans will have the chance to follow the rally through National and International media with a wide coverage that is being set up and will be published shortly.

“We are following all the approved protocols – the Rally General Director Antonio Turitto declared – and this is going to be an off limits edition. We will shortly contact the fans holding a Gold Pass to organize the complete refund of their purchased tickets. We need the collaboration of everyone for the event to take place”.
